Object strike, usually resulting from an off heading opening near the object, is the leading cause of critical injuries and deaths in BASE jumping.  Our four day Object Avoidance course gives students training in the critical safety skills for jumping solid, slider down objects.  This course helps students prepare for the many legal cliff jumps in the Western USA.

Prerequisite:  Fundamentals of BASE

Landing accidents under fully open canopies are the leading cause of injuries in BASE jumping today.  Even something as simple as a broken leg or sprained ankle can quickly end a jumping trip.  This four day course offers training in landing skills to help jumpers minimize their chance of injury as they advance to objects with more technical landing areas.

Many basic rigging tasks can be completed on a home sewing machine, without the need for shipping gear or long waits, and without losing use of the rig for weeks.  Our four day Rigging Skills course teaches jumpers to identify which maintenance and repair tasks should be sent to a professional rigger or gear manufacturer, and which can be completed at home.  Participants will learn to complete simple repair and maintenance tasks on home equipment, including line replacements, simple patches, bridle construction and stash bag construction.

All work will be done on home sewing machines, and machines will be available for purchase at end of the course.

Safety Skills Training: Intermediate Big Wall Tracking

Course fee: $1195

Prerequisites:  Fundamentals of BASE, 500 skydives or 200 Skydives and Instructor Approval, 20 tracking skydives with a tracking suit

Tracking is the most important safety skill for slider up jumping.  Moving away from the object creates a critical safety margin in the event of off heading openings.  Initiating a track early in the jump is increasingly important on shorter delays, and will be the focus of this course.

All students will be required to use a tracking suit.  No wing suits will be used on this course.  Snake River BASE recommends the Squirrel Sumo and Phoenix Fly Power Track Suit, and as a dealer can help students place orders for either of these.  Any other purpose built tracking suit is also acceptable for this course.

This course will follow the Introductory Big Wall Tracking course. Students can enroll in both courses back to back, but students who’s performance is not sufficient to jump in Lauterbrunnen will not be allowed to continue, and no refunds will be given.
